Wongan Golf Club holds successful open day

THE Wongan golf associates recently held a successful open day with 29 women representing 10 clubs participating in a Stableford competition.

It was the club’s inaugural Alzeimers awareness day.

The course is still a perfect picture however winds on the day were gale force which made pushing a buggy into the wind difficult with progress at times almost nil.

Some amazing shots were played however, with the wind behind you.

Nett winner on the day was Julie Chester from Goomalling with 38 points, runner-up Jane Wilson, Wongan Hills 37 points on a countback.

Gross winner for the day was Shirley Pascoe Wongan Hills with 24 points.

Best unplaced visitor Cherie Westlake from Calingiri with 37 points.

Best unplaced local from Wongan Hills with 36 points was Margery Stevens.

Seniors winner from Wongan Hills Lynne Falconer with 34 points and the limit marker handicap 37-45 was Vicki Ellis from Bolgart with 34 points.

Best score for fairways no. 1-9 was won by Karen Stewart from Wongan Hills with 18 points and best score 10-18 went to Vivienne Camerer from Bolgart with 21 points.

Nearest the pin no. 2 and 15, Cherie Westlake from Calingiri, no. 5 and 12 Teresa MacPherson Wongan Hills.

Best second shot no. 8 went to Serena Syred from Bolgart and no. 14 Teresa MacPherson from Wongan Hills.

Best third shot no. 4 all handicaps, Colleen Mitchell from Watheroo and no. 11, handicaps 30-45 Aileen Jones from Wongan Hills.

Long drive winner no. 7 for all handicaps Deb Glover from Watheroo, no. 13 for handicaps 30-45 Cherie Westlake Calingiri.

Closest chip for all no. 17 went to Angela Humphry from Miling.

Longest putt, handicaps 30-45 no. 9 Vicki ellis from Bolgart and for all handicaps no. 18 Angela Humphry from Miling who also won the battler prize.

As usual a sumptuous high afternoon tea was served to put the finishing touches to a very successful day of golf.
