Wongan Hills police news with Sergeant Ben Tomasini

ON JUNE 15 local police hosted a Blue Light Disco in Cadoux.

It was a raging success with about 40 children attending the event.

It’s great to see parents make the effort to attend these events for the local children.

With the dark and gloomy weather upon us it is a timely reminder to all drivers to travel at all times with your headlights on.

It does make it much easier to see other vehicles on the road, even during the day.

There has been another spike in reports of vehicles around the area being broken into.

It is important that people lock their cars and houses.

Vehicle stops in the area have shown numerous people with expired drivers and vehicle licences.

This may be a good time to check that your own drivers licences, and vehicle licences are up to date.

If they are expired it does have an impact on your insurance and you could be liable for thousands in the unfortunate case of an accident.

You can visit the licensing centre with the shire office or visit www.transport.wa.gov.au for more information.

Although vehicles are no longer issued with the reminder stickers to show when registration is due, they can still be purchased at a small cost from the post office.

Please remember that children must be restrained correctly in vehicles at all times.

Children up to six months must be in rear facing restraint; children up to four years must be in a restraint with an inbuilt harness; children aged four years to under seven years must be in booster seat; and children under four are not permitted in front seat and under seven not permitted in front seat unless all rear seats are occupied other children under seven years of age in a vehicle that has a back row or rows of seats.

Visit www.kidsafewa.com.au for more information.

Over the past week local police have apprehended and charged a 26-year-old man driving an unlicensed vehicle; a 20-year-old Northam woman with permitting use of an unlicensed vehicle; a 47-year- old Northam man with driving with no driver’s licence; and a 22-year-old local man with common assault.
