09 Feb, 2012 11:23 AM
EVEN though Moora Speedway club hasn’t been running over the holidays, that hasn’t held local drivers back.

Esperance Speedway held the Western Australian State Title for Junior Sedans from December 30 January 1.

Four local junior drivers attended the event: Jayden McCuish, Tyler Vanzetti, Sean Bowen and Karis Vanzetti-Milic.

All four drivers did exceptionally well, making their club and community very proud.

Vanzetti-Milic made it through to the C- main race by starting from position 13 out of 18 junior cars and finishing in seventh position.

Unfortunately for her to have made it through to the B-main she would have had to have finished in first or second place.

McCuish and Bowen qualified to start out of the B-main, with McCuish starting in fifth position and Bowen starting out of position six, out of 19 junior cars.

With both drivers finishing well, McCuish finished in second position and Bowen in third position, which qualified both drivers to enter into the A-main.

Starting out of the main event was Vanzetti in position one, McCuish position 18 and Sean position 19, out of 20 junior cars.

With race being a total of 25 laps it certainly kept the pressure on the local drivers.

McCuish and Bowen managed to battle through a lot of the field throughout the race; even with to the race having several cautions McCuish finished in eighth position and Bowan was 12th.

Vanzetti held pole position for the first two laps and then was overtaken by Hayden Purnell.

There were various cautions throughout the race, however Vanzetti and Purnell pulled away from the pack after every restart, battling it out for first and second position, and did so for 23 laps out of 25.

On lap 23 Vanzetti ended up running through a hole of water that another vehicle had left on the track which sent him straight to the wall and he damaged his steering and unfortunately was unable to continue the race.

Vanzetti also attended the Australian State Title in Alice Springs on January 21.

He travelled more than 8800km to be at the event with his very dedicated father Shane.

He qualifies 14th fastest out of 69 junior cars on the practice day.

Tyler and Shane ad some tinkering to do to the car as it wasn’t performing to the standard they wanted it to and finally they got things set up right on the second night with Tyler starting out of position eight in the C-main.

He battled through the cars to get himself into second position, though on the second last lap he washed out wide and ended up finishing in position four.

Local junior drivers who went to the Westralian Australian Junior Title in Esperance and competed on behalf of the Moora Speedway Club and the community of Moora are to be congratulated – they did an exceptional job.

On January 27-29 Coates Hire Bunbury Speedway held the Western Australian State Title for Streetstock Sedans.

Five local drivers attend the event: Dale Cockman, Warren Vanzetti, Ryan Brown, Donna Vanzetti and Chris Vanzetti.

Chris Vanzetti made it through his practice day and first night of heats on the Saturday night, only to discover through the night that he had a blown head gasket and was unable to continue the weekend’s events.

Donna Vanzetti and Brown made it into the C-main, with Donna starting out of position 15 and Ryan Brown starting out of position six.

Donna ended up finishing in fourth position and Ryan finished in eighth position, however needed to finish second or better to make it into the B-main.

Warren Vanzetti started off pole position in the B-main and led for quite a few laps, however throughout the 20-lap race he ended up dropping back to finish in third position which made him qualify to start in position 19 for the main event, the A-main.

Also in the A-main Cockman started out of position 14.

Warren Vanzetti had a slight altercation with another driver and half-way through the heat was sent to the rear of the field on a caution.

On the same caution Cockman ended up having to retire from the race due to rear suspension problems.

As the main event continued Warren Vanzetti fought his way back through the pack to end up finishing in ninth position, which was a huge effort.
