THE predicted match of the round lived up to expectations in the South Midlands Cricket Association game two of round one on Sunday.
Moora Knights 78 (O Langley 25, K Wyatt 24, M Green 5/12, M Collard 2/19) defeated Gingin Reds 51 (M Green 16, M Collard 14, J Dodd 5/12, K Sullivan 2/15) in the low scoring affair.
With both teams looking for an early season win after ordinary first games, the Knights won the toss and elected to bat.
The loss of opener Travis Howe in the first over of the day for the second week in a row put the Knights on the back foot.
From there the Knights never really recovered except for a brief partnership between Owen Langley and Kevin Wyatt.
The two added 25 and 24 respectively, lifting the Knights total to 78 before they were all dismissed.
With such a low total to defend, the Knights knew they would have to bowl well from the start.
Veteran quick Keiran Sullivan started well, dismissing Reds opener Brad Alp in the first opener.
With fellow opener Scott McLean the two applied pressure to the Reds with consistent pace and swing bowling.
Both openers took two wickets each in their opening spells which saw Scott McLean bowl his nine overs straight.
With the Reds at 4/21 the game was in the balance with the Reds danger players Murray Green and Steve Balcombe both back in the pavilion.
In a piece of captaining magic, Jye Dodd then brought himself into the attack with immediate results.
With quick wickets the game swung in the Knights favour with the captain taking 5/12 from 5.4 overs and taking the Knights to their first win of the season while leaving a deflated Reds team wondering how it had all happened.
Well done to Knights new players Jarrad O’Hern, Owen Langley, Jesse Brennan on their early success.
Next week’s games: Gingin Reds vs Dandaragan Bears, Lower Chittering Warriors vs Bindoon Bushrangers, Bindi Miling Rams vs Muchea, Moora Knights bye.
