IT is two wins in a row to Cunderdin in the Anzac Cup, which is hotly contested each year by football teams from the WA College of Agriculture at Cunderdin and Narrogin.
This year’s match was on May 6. It is held annually at the Corrigin Recreation Ground and broadcast live by Radio West.
The final results were Cunderdin 12.9 (81) to Narrogin 5.9 (69).
Ryan Norwood and James Smith both from the Cunderdin college were awarded the Crombie Family and Stone/Perks trophies respectively for best players in the match.
Cunderdin coach Dion Brayshaw said the team had a successful first quarter.
A scuffle developed in the second quarter when Narrogin decided to fight back and the scores had evened out by half time.
“Cunderdin ran away with it in the end through hard running, quality skills and sacrificial acts,” Brayshaw said.
“The team was creative in the forward line, dominated in the mid field and was strong in the back line.”
The team was competitive and had good prospects for the schools’ Country Week competition which starts on June 29.
All the students and a number of staff from the college along with representatives of the Cunderdin Football Club travelled to Corrigin to support the team. Club representatives presented the awards after the game.
The Cunderdin team comprised Tim Fulwood, Kyle Beard (Cunderdin); Michael Burgess, Tom Fleay, Josh Walker (York); Andrew Adamson, Anthony Nelson (Merredin); Sam Martin, David Smith, James Smith (Northam); Fraser Morcombe (Jurien Bay); Kevin Bending, Mitch Gibbs (Wyalkatchem); Jeremy Dyer (Tammin); Drew Kent (Kellerberrin); Scott McLellan (Southern Cross); Daniel Fowler (Wongan Hills); Ryan Norwood (Scaddan); Jarrod Offer, Jeremy Richardson (Newdegate); Jake Stringer (Williams) and Sam Defrenne (Grass Patch).
Drew Kent and James Smith also play in the Perth Demons Colts side in the Western Australian Football League.
