A BACKDROP of ripening wheat crops and the historic Wyening Mission Farm Cellars provided a perfect setting for a jazz quartet at Calingiri late last month.
More than 130 people gathered to hear the James Flynn quartet perform in the old stone winery, built by the Benedictine ommunity more than 90 years ago.
Organiser Louise Young said the audience was a mixture of Perth and local people, with a strong contingent from the New Norcia/Yerecoin area for the second year.
“This is our second jazz event,” Ms Young said.
“Last year’s was so successful that we decided to stick with the same format again this year.
“Jazz appeals to people of all ages and a concert like this allows us to open up the ellars for others to enjoy and experience.”
Guests also enjoyed freshly prepared food, with salt and pepper squid, risotto and Mediterranean salad on the menu.
Ms Young said further events would be run at the inery next year.
