Woman killed in car crash

12 Nov, 2009 02:36 PM
A 40 year old woman died after her car left the road and hit a tree near Wongan Hills about 9am on Saturday.

The Hyundai sedan was travelling north when the crash occurred on the Northam-Pithara Road about 18km south of the township.

The RAC rescue helicopter was sent to the crash after reports of one person being trapped.

The helicopter was recalled after it was confirmed the woman was the sole occupant of the car, and had died at the scene.

Sergeant Greg Lambert from police media said the deceased woman was Tania Suzanne Gilchrist from Grass Valley near Northam.

Sergeant Steve Dixon from the Wongan Hills Police attended the crash scene and said the cause of the crash was being investigated and that speed could have been a factor in the fatality.
