Central Midlands Senior High School farewelled senior students at their Year 12 graduation night on Tuesday, October 27 at the Moora Performing Arts Centre.
This was a formal opportunity for the school to mark a special occasion in the lives of the 21 graduating students.
“The class of 2009 is notable for their cohesion, their good humour, their caring of each other and their willingness to be a force of both conscience and good will,” CMSHS principal John Stone said.
“Although only a few of theses senior students received a subject prize or citizenship award, we felt that all of these Year 12s deserved a special award when it came to the important attributes of being decent, caring and supportive human beings.
“Staff at Central Midlands SHS are confident that they have prepared the Year 12 graduates for their future.
“They have encouraged them to be lifelong learners and have fostered a strong belief in every one of these young people that they can make valuable contributions to the wider community.
“In return, we asked that every student left feeling proud of our school – determined to tell people with pride that they went to Central Midlands SHS.”
Former student and previous Dux award recipient, Rose Antonio, made a wonderful address, offering some pertinent advice to the graduates and challenged them to make the most of all opportunities as they present themselves.
“This night was also a celebration of the teamwork that is a real feature of our staff,” Mr Stone said.
“Our office ladies Kathy Cousins and Kathy Moses worked tirelessly to ensure that every last detail was attended to.
“Year co-ordinator Florina Geroff organised the Year 12s superbly, Joh Gatti co-ordinated all lighting, sound and audio visuals using her talented drama students, in the role of MC Jeff Pohara skilfully linked all aspects of the presentations, Desley Hannagan and P and C members co-ordinated and presented a fabulous supper; and many other staff assisted where necessary.
“This was a highly successful night that worked to recognise the talents, achievements and attributes of our departing class of 2009.
“Well done to everyone who played a part.”
