STEVEN Yappo played his 400th game for the Moora Warriors on Sunday and was honoured by team mates, family and friends for his commitment and leadership within the club for so many years.
Mr Yappo began his senior football career in 1979, winniong the Central Midlands Coastal Football League fairest and best awards in 1988 and 2006.
With many league premierships to his name, Mr Yappo has been an all round club member, serving on the committee in 2004 and 2005 and shared league coaching duties in 2004.
A life member of the club, Mr Yappo is well known and respected across the league as a tough, hard but fair player who enjoys the contest on the field and the camaraderie off the field.
Mr Yappo will finish the year in the A Grade team but next year plans to step back to the reserves where he hopes to continue playing until his son is old enough to have a match with him.
Celebrations of Mr Yappo’s 400th game started on the Friday night before the game when his family held a party in his honour and collected memorabilia, photographs and newspaper clippings from Mr Yappo’s entire senior football career.
“They went to a lot of trouble to get things together and they also presented me with a West Coast Eagles jumper signed by David Wirrpanda,” Mr Yappo said.
At the match on Sunday against Cervantes, Mr Yappo was humbled when the team he played against also presented him with an Eagles jumper, signed by John Worsfold.
His own team were proud of Mr Yappo and had club legend and friend Graham Burnett present him with a number 400 Warriors jumper to commemorate the milestone.
