Man crushed to death by hay bale

29 Oct, 2009 02:44 PM
A 69 year old man was crushed to death by a 700kg bale of hay on a local farm on Sunday.

Police said Kevin Sydney Hanlon, of East Victoria Park, was unloading hay bales from the rear of a truck into a large hay shed about 11am on a farm property bordering the Wongan-Calingiri Road.

Officer in charge of the Wongan Hills Police, Sergeant Steven Dixon attended the scene.

“The man had come up from Perth to help family members on the farm during their busy hay carting time,” Sgt Dixon said.

“We will be continuing with our enquiries regarding the incident and will prepare a report for the coroner.”

Because a death occurred on a commercial property, the accident will also be investigated by WorkSafe.
