CENTRAL Midlands Senior High School hospitality students travelled to Dandaragan Primary School to cater for a recent afternoon tea function for staff and parents following a school assembly.
Home economics teacher Claire Rowe said this year part of the year 11 and 12 hospitality program was to create closer links with the primary schools in the district so the students could develop ‘real life’ catering skills.
Ms Rowe said she had two classes involved in the course this year, with year 11s working for their certificate I and the year 12s their certificate II in hospitality.
On February 19, the year 12 students visited Moora Primary School and they will be catering for a morning tea function on March 19.
Ms Rowe said the students prepared and cooked the food in the school home economics room or used the commercial kitchen at the Moora Performing Arts Centre.
“We then pack up all the food and take it to the function we are catering for and add the finer details when we get there,” Ms Rowe said.
“For us as a school, it is really important to keep a close bond and involvement with the primary schools and to make the parents aware of the courses and opportunities that Central Midlands Senior High School can offer.
“The new trade centre, which is to be built on campus and ready for the start of the 2011 school year, will specialise in the automotive and hospitality industries.”
