THE Shire in conjunction with local schools will be doing their bit for Clean Up Australia Day, which will be held locally on Wednesday, March 10.
Local schools are getting involved and have nominated sites within their towns.
Community members are invited to participate on the same day.
Pam Toster from Watheroo Primary School will have 42 children participating from pre-primary to year seven.
They will be cleaning up the townsite excluding George Street for safety reasons, from 8.45-10am.
This school is always the first to respond for these events, which highlights its strong community spirit.
Angela Mills will be organising 20 pre-primary to year seven students at Miling Primary School, who will dedicate their time from 9-10am to tidy Miling Sports Ground.
These children did an exceptional job last year and organised for their own rubbish bag collection after the event.
St Joseph’s School principal Therese Bandy has organised for 160 students from eight classes to volunteer from 1.30-2.30pm to clean up Apex Park and the river between the two bridges.
This is a priority area for the community of Moora and the Shire appreciates the school taking on this site.
Fiona Pattison has organised for five classes from Moora Primary School to participate by cleaning up areas around their school, verges, neighbouring streets and the townsite.
Those children in the higher grades will be cleaning along roads and part of the town, which is also a major priority for the Moora townsite and always makes a difference to the general appearance of our town.
Twenty of Central Midlands Senior high school cadets will be conducting their own clean up day later in the year to be organised by Doug McGhee, so stay posted for their event.
It is great to have a group of young community members taking on this initiative.
The Shire is encouraging the community to get involved on the same day and volunteer some time so that we can make it an all of shire effort.
There are some sites in the towns that are easier for adults to clean up and any assistance with these areas would be much appreciated.
The Shire of Moora will be providing gloves and bags to assist with the collection.
Individuals or groups who are interested in volunteering a small amount of their time to come and help out are asked to register with Rebecca Kelly at the Shire of Moora on 9651 1401.
