MOST of the community by now will know Gavin and Katrina Halligan of New Norcia lost their home when it was destroyed by fire last Saturday night.
Mr Halligan was at home alone at the time as Mrs Halligan and the children were away for the weekend.
A passing truck driver saw the blaze and alerted emergency services.
The truck driver who stopped to call 000 unhitched his truck and drove to the scene and woke Mr Halligan who was able to get out of the house in time.
By the time neighbours arrived at the house it was already too late for anything to be done.
Fortunately the family is all safe, although Mr Halligan did spend the night in Moora Hospital as a cautionary procedure due to smoke inhalation.
Currently the family is staying with Mark and Jane Graham.
Mark Graham is running the physical clean-up and can be contacted on 9654 5069.
A fundraising account has been set up at Westpac Bank for those who want to make a financial contribution, or it can be forwarded directly to the Halligans at the New Norcia post office.
Retravision Moora and Wongan Hills are also taking donations in the form of gift vouchers and will be keeping a register.
The Halligans and their families are thankful for everyone’s support and assistance.
Mr Halligan is also looking to contact the truck driver who stopped to help him as he would like to personally thank him for basically saving his life.
ABC radio is assisting to help contact the truck driver.
