THE Dandaragan Shire is encouraging young people to be better leaders and citizens with up to $300 available to each primary school in the district to send students to a National Young Leaders Conference in March.
Up to six students from each school will have their attendance fees covered by the grant.
Channel Nine news reader Dixie Marshall and West Coast Eagles legend David Wirrpanda will both be speaking at the conference on March 29 at the Perth Convention Exhibition Centre.
The conference is directed at young people who already demonstrate leadership qualities and aims to inspire them to grow their knowledge and skills with support from a wide network of positive role models.
Schools will be responsible for transport and supervision of the selected primary school students.
The money is made available through the Shire’s youth policy which also offers a senior student scholarship to be a crew member on the training ship Leeuwin.
Dandaragan Shire economic development officer Nicole Reichelt said the funding was part of an annual program to encourage leadership and citizenship among the youth of the Shire.
To access the funding schools should contact Nicole at the Shire and discuss how to disburse the money.
