Electronic data devices fitted to police vehicles

11 Mar, 2010 11:24 AM
MOORA Police received a technology upgrade of its vehicles this week.

The vehicles have been equipped with Tasking and Dispatch Information Systems (TADIS).

These handheld mobile data devices will allow regional police officers to access names and criminal history records, addresses, offender photographs and vehicle registration details.

This new system can also send task dispatch information directly to the handheld device, allowing police to respond to incidents more quickly and effectively.

The devices also have an inbuilt global positioning system (GPS), which displays the officer’s location on electronic mapping systems.

“This is a really great technology tool to assist us with our duties, providing frontline policing services in a more professional manner,” Moora Police officer in charge Sergeant Harry Arnott said.

“It is more efficient for us to be able to access necessary data while on the road without referring back to the Wheatbelt operational centre in Northam.”

Wongan Hills Police were allocated a TADIS system as part of the initial country roll out last October.
