CERVANTES Primary School student Yasmin Purtle made her school proud last week by winning a highly commended award in Chevron Australia’s 2008 Focus Environment photographic and caption competition.
The competition attracted more than 1,000 entries from around the State.
Yasmin was awarded highly commended in the Years 4 to 7 category for her photograph titled Whipping Blades.
Yasmin’s photograph impressed the judges with its interesting composition and striking colours.
An initiative of Chevron Australia, the competition was open to all Western Australian students in Years 4 to 12, with entries received from as far north as Broome and as far south as Albany.
Chevron Australia managing director Roy Krzywosinksi said the standard of entries received this year was exceptional, with photographs and captions demonstrating a high level of thought and creativity. “Our hope is that Focus Environment will encourage students to be aware of the world – to be custodians of the environment,” he said.
